If you want to<\/span> enjoy<\/span> the country<\/span> and enjoy the many<\/span> regional and<\/span> national parks<\/span> of<\/span> the North Island<\/span> and<\/span> the South Island<\/span>, you can spend your nights<\/span> in<\/span>\u00a0the amazing\u00a0DOC campgrounds.\u00a0DOC (Department Of Conservation) manages the nature reserves of New Zealand and allows you to spend your nights in beautiful locations for around $10 NZD per night.<\/span><\/p>\n

These campsites are often in some of the best locations around the country \u2013 in national parks, alongside the Great Walks and in tranquil and secluded spots. They are\u00a0quite basic, offering ‘back to nature’ style accommodation and facilities – that’s why they’re so cheap. A full list of campsites by region can be found on the DoC website<\/a>. \"raewhiitit\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Rerewhakaaitu, Brett Road \u00a0– Rotorua<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Camp on the shores of Lake Rerewhakaaitu. Take binoculars for bird watching. There is good fishing, swimming and walking nearby.<\/p>\n

Curio Bay Camping Ground (featured image)<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n

DOC Campsite Curio Bay offers a magnificent view of the Catlins in \u00a0the South Island. By the sea, the site offers the basic facilities. \u00a0Curio Bay is known for its surfing beaches and for Hector dolphins who regularly play with the surfers. The terrain offers 75 tent pitches without electricity and 25 sites with power and a dump station. Kitchen and laundry facilities available.<\/p>\n

Cascade Creek in Fiordland<\/strong><\/h2>\n

From this campsite\u00a0you can enjoy a wonderful view of the mountains and fjords. A stream runs through the middle of the camp. You can also enjoy outdoor activities such as fishing, or a one-hour walk that will take you to the picturesque Lake Gunn. This location is ideal to prolong the experience of a cruise in the fjords, or before reaching the beautiful region of turquoise lakes.<\/p>\n

\"Matata\"<\/a>Matata Conservation Campsite – Eastern Bay of Plenty<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The<\/span> Matata<\/span> campsite<\/span> is<\/span> a paradise for<\/span> fishermen and<\/span> nature lovers<\/span>. This<\/span> DOC campsite<\/span> is<\/span> right next to the\u00a0<\/span>Matata<\/span> wildlife sanctuary. An impressive number of<\/span> birds<\/span> are found here<\/span> and you can<\/span> see<\/span> them through\u00a0<\/span>many viewing points<\/span> put in place by DOC<\/span>. There are also<\/span> many<\/span> walks inside<\/span> the park.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
